Bridgewater’s AI Dermatology Service is run in partnership with Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals and Skin Analytics, an external provider of medical-grade artificial intelligence called DERM.
DERM recognises skin cancer and common harmless skin conditions using photographic images.
Because DERM can give a faster diagnosis, patients with harmless skin conditions need less hospital appointments.
This allows faster care for more urgent cases, with patients often receiving their treatment onsite on the same day.
The safety and effectiveness of DERM has been demonstrated in a number of studies and is followed by a human ‘sense check’ from a member of staff, giving patients extra reassurance.
Who can be referred to the service and how?
Patients who are 18 years and over can be referred to the service by their General Practitioner (GP).
This is for assessment of up to 3 skin lesion(s) when there is a suspicion of skin cancer.
The service will not be able to assess rashes or other skin conditions such as eczema, acne or psoriasis.
Where is the service offered?
The service is offered at Warrington and Halton Diagnostics Centre at Halton Health Hub, within Runcorn Shopping City.
