About us – Adult Bladder and Bowel Care Service in Warrington

The Bladder and Bowel Service offers clinical assessment, individualised treatment and support to improve your bladder and bowel health.

We are a nurse-led service that specialises in continence care and our aim is to support patients and carers as much as possible while they are dealing with bladder and bowel issues.

We work with adults to promote healthy bladders and bowels through lifestyle management.

We aim to improve quality of life and promote dignity and independence through assessment, treatment plans and care reviews.

We provide the following services for adults:

  • The service supports patients with a variety of Bladder and Bowel conditions.
  • Bladder retraining, providing guidance on how to reduce bladder frequency for patients whose bladder empties at frequent interval.
  • Pelvic floor muscle training for both male and female patients to help reduce both bladder and bowel incontinence, and to help patients who suffer from prolapses.
  • Chronic constipation advice and support for patient who have a long-term problem with constipation.
  • Helping to reduce frequency of chronic diarrhoea through lifestyle and medication.
  • Bowel management care for patients who may need bowel irrigation. Transanal irrigation assessment, teaching and support
  • Enuresis (bedwetting)
  • ISC- intermittent self-catheterisation, teaching patients how to use intermittent catheters, with an individualised plan for frequency of use and an ongoing support.

What to expect at clinic appointment?

For patients who can attend clinic you will be offered a 45–60-minute face to face appointment in 1 of 2 locations, Orford Jubilee Hub or Spencer House.

Your clinician will get an update of your symptoms including your bladder and bowel habits. According to your symptoms, an internal examination (vaginal or rectal) may be necessary. A bladder scan and urine specimen may be required as part of the assessment.

You are welcome to have chaperone accompanying you to your appointment or a chaperone will be offered, if booked in advance.

Following the assessment, the clinician will advise of your treatment options or your symptoms management plan.
