All families are allocated a named Health Visitor, who will remain with you and support you and your family through the early years, from late pregnancy until your child commences primary school.

Once your child starts school, then support is available from the school nurse team until your child finishes their education in year 13, or up to the age of 25, if they have send.

The Health Visiting Team deliver the national Health Child Programme.

As part of the Healthy Child Programme, your family will be offered:

  • 1 – Pre Birth visit – offered in the late stages of pregnancy
  • 2 – Birth Visit – usually within 10-14 days of your baby’s birth
  • 3 – 6-8 week visit
  • 4 – 9-12 month development review
  • 5 – 2-2.5 year development review

Role of the health visitor

A health visitor is a trained nurse or midwife who has received additional training in public health.

Your named health visitor will contact you to arrange appointments for you and your child.

You will be able to discuss your child’s developmental progress during your appointment.

The health visitor will also offer support, practical advice and guidance to you and your child, these include:

Child health:

  • Sleep and behaviour management
  • Infant feeding, diet and nutrition
  • Growth
  • Development
  • Immunisations
  • Home safety
  • Minor illnesses – health visitors are able to prescribe medicine for some conditions.

Family health and wellbeing:

  • Emotional health and wellbeing
  • Postnatal depression and mental health

We also send all parents a letter, around 3-4 months to offer support around weaning, accidents in the home etc.

Please contact us at any stage if you need advice or support or are worried about your child’s development eg feeding, diet, behaviour, sleep, potty training, meeting milestones to name but a few.

Warrington Children’s Centres
There are six children’s centres in Warrington that offer a variety of play based learning activities for young children (aged 0-5, and up to 10) and their families.


Free antenatal infant feeding workshop

Do you want to feel educated, informed, and confident when feeding your baby?

Enrol and join us on our free workshop provided by the Warrington 0-19 Infant Feeding Team.

Over three hours of content to make sure you feel ready, confident, and supported when it comes to feeding your baby.
