Early Language Strategies for Parents and Guardians (ELPG)

Learning to talk does not always come easy.

Some children can find it more difficult or take longer to talk and it can be difficult to know how to help.


Strategies to support ‘Early Communication Skills’ in the Early years (ECS)

This training for Parents / Carers will explain differences with social interaction and communication which can be seen in young children.

It will provide Parents / Carers with strategies to help support social communication skills through play, everyday activities and visual strategies.


Working Together to Develop Early Social Communication Skills (SOC0)

This training for Early Years staff will explain social communication difficulties in the early years.

It will provide Early Years staff with strategies to help support social communication skills through play and visual strategies.


Strategies to support social communication and peer interaction (SOC-PS)

This training for Early Years / KS1 Staff and parents will explain social communication and peer interaction difficulties in early childhood.

It will provide Early Years / KS1 Staff and parents with strategies to help support social communication skills through play and visual strategies.


Working Together to Develop Social Communication Skills in Young Children (SOC1)

This training for Parents / Carers / School staff will explain what social communication needs are and why they might happen.

It will provide school staff and parents with resources and strategies to help support social communication needs experienced by young people.


Social Communication Training for Older Children (SOC2)

This training for Parents / Carers / Education staff will explain what social communication needs are and why they might happen.

It will provide school staff and parents with resources and strategies to help support social communication needs experienced by young people.


Verbal Reasoning (VR)

Verbal reasoning is a form of problem solving using language, it is commonly used in the classroom environment.

This training explains the four Blank Levels of verbal reasoning skills, and questions and activities you can use at each level to support a child to develop their skills further.


Selective Mutism (SM)

This training will help you to understand what Selective Mutism is and the effect is has on a child.

It will provide you with strategies to support a child who is finding it difficult to talk confidently in specific environments.


Auditory Memory and Processing Skills (AUD)

This training will provide you with strategies to support the child / young person’s auditory memory and processing skills in everyday situations.

It will also provide you with resources for you to complete with the child / young person to help them to establish strategies they can use to support their auditory memory and processing skills independently.


Vocabulary and word finding skills (VOC)

This training will explain what vocabulary and word finding skills are, why difficulties in this area may occur and the impact these difficulties can have.

It will provide you with strategies to use to support the child / young person’s vocabulary and word finding skills in everyday situations.

It will also provide you with resources for you to complete with the child / young person to help them to establish strategies they can use to support their vocabulary and word finding skills independently and develop these skills.


Talkabout (TALK)

This training will briefly cover ‘social skills’ as a foundation for setting up the Talkabout Social Skills Groups.

It will provide school staff with the resources required for setting up the Talkabout groups including: use of the assessment materials; planning intervention; how to set up and run the groups; and how to support children to generalise the skills to the classroom and wider environments.


Speech Difficulties in Young Children (SP)

Unclear speech in pre-school is not unusual. Difficulties can range from just one or two immature sounds to completely unclear speech.

Speech may be unclear for a number of reasons.


Stammering Training for Teaching Staff (STAM)

This training is for primary and secondary school teaching staff, to learn how to support children who stammer.

This short training package will discuss what stammering is, why it happens and how to support children who stammer in the classroom.

Supporting children with complex needs in mainstream schools (MS-COMPLEX)

This training for Mainstream Staff will provide strategies for how to support children with complex needs that are attending mainstream schools, including how to support them to engage in learning input and activities.

It will also discuss how to monitor progress for these children so that this can be demonstrated during their journey through education.
