What should my child wear for their appointment?

It would be beneficial for your child to wear comfortable clothing and supportive footwear so that your occupational therapist can complete a full assessment.

If your child has any glasses, equipment or splints they use please bring these with you.


Is there parking at the CDC?

Yes, there is free parking available on site.


Is there a bus route which runs to the Sandy Lane CDC?

There are two buses number 20 and 21 which stops on Poplars Avenue and Cleveland Road where you can walk to the child development centre.

Who do I contact if I need to cancel/re arrange an appointment?

We ask that if you know in advance that you are unable to make your appointment that you contact the children’s occupational therapy department on 01925 946097.


What happens if I miss an appointment?

Non-attendance to an appointment may result in your child being discharged from the children’s occupational therapy service.


How long does an initial assessment take?

An initial assessment may take anywhere from 60 to 90 minutes.

Sometimes, it may be necessary to have more than one assessment depending upon your child’s needs. An assessment may take place in our clinic, at the child’s home or in their school environment.


Do I need to be present for my child’s appointment?

We ask that children are accompanied by a parent or carer for their clinic appointments.


What do I do if I have information I want to discuss without my child present?

Please contact the occupational therapy service and ask to speak to an occupational therapist.


Will my child be seen virtually or in person?

Usually, your child will receive a face-to-face appointment either in clinic, at home or in their school. However, if you require your child to be seen virtually, your therapist can arrange a virtual appointment for your child using our NHS attend anywhere virtual service.


Can I bring siblings to my child’s appointment?

We would advise that where possible your child attends alone with parents to reduce distractions.
