IV Therapy (Intravenous Therapy) – Halton and Warrington

The Intravenous Therapy service is an “admissions avoidance” service provided by Bridgewater to enable the residents of Halton or Warrington to access intravenous therapy treatment within their home environment.

The term intravenous (IV) is used when medication is given to you into a vein.

Conditions treatable in the community by the Intravenous Therapy Team:

  • Cellulitis (soft tissue and skin infections)
  • Diabetic foot ulcers
  • Chest infections (acute)
  • Urine infections (acute)
  • Spinal infections
  • Infections of the bone

Who can access the service?

GP referral or referral from the Accident and Emergency Department of the Warrington Hospital.

We are also a supported early discharge team which any trust can refer into.


Where is the service offered?

Patients are either seen in a clinic setting or at their home.
