Trust receives excellent ‘well-led’ report

In January 2023, an independent external ‘well-led’ governance review was commissioned.

This review was undertaken by an organisation called Facere Melius – a healthcare improvement consultancy who focuses on corporate, quality, and safety governance.

Why was the review commissioned?

In 2018 Bridgewater had a CQC inspection. This resulted in a ‘Requires Improvement’ rating. A re-inspection was unfortunately suspended in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Although we are not aware of a new CQC inspection currently, it is always good to prepare should a new inspection happen soon.

In response to the 2018 CQC inspection, and knowing that this rating was 5 years ago, a ‘well-led’ improvement plan was developed by the Trust Board.

This plan started with an earlier ‘well-led’ review by Facere Melius back in 2020 (during the Covid-19 pandemic). At this review, 35 recommended actions were received of which the Board accepted.

What has happened in the latest ‘well-led’ review in 2023?

The team at Facere Melius examined many Trust documents ranging from Board papers (both Public and Closed) and Committee, Executive Team and Trust Council meeting reports and papers.

Several meetings were observed including Board strategy sessions.

Over 30 face-to-face and video interviews were completed with Board, staff and external partners.

As a major improvement to the 2020 review, the 2023 report has reduced significantly to nine recommendations for the Board to accept.

This update was presented to Trust Board in June, of which the Board received the report with positivity.
