Jan McCartney – Trust Secretary

Jan McCartney

Position: Trust Secretary

Tell us about your career to date:

I’ve spent my whole career in public service and worked for police forces, local authorities and NHS trusts.

However working for the NHS brings me the greatest sense of pride.

My previous role was as an Information Governance specialist so it was a natural progression to move to the Executive Team to lead on Corporate Governance.

What is the most important thing for you in your role?

My main responsibilities include:

  • ensuring that board procedures of both the board of directors and the Council of Governors are complied with,
  • advising the board of directors and the Council of Governors on all governance matters
  • dealing with legal matters on behalf of the Trust

What is the biggest achievement of your career so far?

I don’t have an achievement I can single out, just lots of moments of pride in what we do and the difference we make.

As part of my job I have the absolute pleasure of visiting various teams and services, meeting patients and seeing first-hand the life-changing services Bridgewater offers.

What is your main focus for the year?

As the Integrated Care Providers and Provider Collaborative are being established in the north west I am really excited to be involved in shaping and supporting their development for improved patient care.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I enjoy being at the heart of the Trust and working alongside of colleagues right across the organisation.

I have the unique and special position to work with all services, both clinical and corporate.
